Call of Duty: World at War Preview: 6.5/10 Stars | Posted by Brent on Jul 16th 08 11:25 PM
Without playing the game; I have come to the conclusion that Call of Duty: World at War is going to suck 100% as much as Call of Duty 3.
How do I know this? Call of Duty: World at War is being developed by the same developers as CoD 3. I am entirely certain that I do not want to buy the game from Treyarch merely because of how over-hyped CoD3 was, and how much I found it sucked compared to the last big hit in the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty 2. That combined with Treyarch's elite track-record of movie games from Minority Report: Everybody Runs (2002) to all of the Spider-Man games which received mixed reviews individually averaging around the upper 70's to lower 80's.
Call of Duty 4 is to Call of Duty 2 as Call of Duty: World at War is to one of the following....
Call of Duty 3
Steaming Crap
A movie-game
Sultry
Trick question, the answer was all four simultaneously. Not only has Treyarch stated they are "making the best FPS of the year" but they take pride in Call of Duty 3's success. This to me spells disaster.
The game has gained much praise lately and perhaps the increased development time allotted by Infinity Ward, as well as the overall refinements to the Call of Duty engine that have made the CoD 4 such a great game will make up for the lack of executive review that allowed Call of Duty 3 out of the door. Although this could have a negative effect and permit the team to release a game that limps out of the door walking almost entirely on the crutches of the new CoD engine.
My advice to Infinity Ward: buy Treyarch, restructure it to match yourselves, and don't let Call of Duty 3 happen again. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't worth buying, or playing more than a week or two. Heed my advice, don't pre-order, wait it out, rent it, then drop it like it's a movie-game.
Here's some gameplay. Just as expected.
