Desert Conflict aka Desert Combat 2 / DC2Miss BF1942's Desert Combat? | Posted by David P. on Nov 11th 07 12:05 AM
Desert Conflict, an independant continuation of Desert Combat into Battlefield 2 by hardcore DC fans is out. I've played it myself and as a hardcore DC fan, I give it a 4/5 even so early in development.
Many similarities can be found between the two mods, enough of them to where you wouldn't notice you werent on BF1942 other than a few forced functions of the BF2 engine like missle lockon for missles. Dumb-fire missles, user controlled artillery, a lack of commander mode, and of course the large selection of vehicles are all things you can find in Desert Conflict not mentioning the updated graphics engine.
Many of the Desert Combat maps have been recreated too, they are nearly exact copies with the exception of new textures, effects (leaves), and minor updates. For example, Gazala has a better vehicle path to the first flag from the Insurgent team, but the rest of the map is intact from vehicle spawns to hill sizes. Remember Gazala was a BF1942 map, not a Desert Combat map, the change was a positive one for sure.
The BF2 engine supports far greater physics and graphics effects with updated shader models that provide a much better experience than reinstalling bf1942. I reccomend if you have considered reinstalling 1942 for Desert Combat that you pick up a copy of Battlefield 2 for $10 off ebay then the download Desert Conflict here at > 8Mb/s, don't forget the Battlefield 2 1.41 patch while you're here.
