Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault
The sequel to Allied Assault follows the Pacific theatre of war against the Japanese | Posted by jonchappell on Aug 22nd 05 02:32 PM
Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault is the sequel to Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and was developed by EA LA and published by Electronic Arts in 2004.

The game is also set in World War 2 like its predecessor, but this time it takes place in the Pacific theatre of war, and takes inspiration from films such as Pearl Harbor and The Thin Red Line. You play the role of a Marine named Tommy Conlin and fight with the rest of his squad. This takes away the "one-man army" feel of the original game.

The game mainly takes place through dense undergrowth jungle undergrowth in places like Guadalcanal, Makin Atoll and Tawawa, where you'll be fighting against Japanese soldiers.

The healing system in Pacific Assault has changed. In Allied Assault, you had to find canteens and health packs in order to replenish lost health; in Pacific Assault you must depend on your squad's medic, who has a limited number of bandages per level. When you're about to die, the screen goes black and white and the sound becomes distorted. If your medic manages to reach you he can bring you back to life, otherwise the screen will slowly fade to black.

The game has been praised for its AI. While you can give basic orders to your squad members, it is often not necessary as they will normally react intelligently to their surroundings. This offsets the linear, scripted nature of the game and means that battles do not always play the same way each time you load the game.

The game's weapons are modelled on their real-life counterparts and include Remington shotguns, Thompson sub-machine guns and Japanese M44 Carbines. These weapons need precision, are slow to reload and ammunition for them is scarce. This encourages a skillful approach; a "run and gun" mentality will quickly get you killed.

The game features a brand-new engine developed specifically for it that offers such effects as grass bending during an explosion, realistic water and particle effects, high resolution textures (check out the screenshots) and utilisation of the Havok physics engine, which offers such features as rag-doll body physics.

The game has three multiplayer modes: Free-for-all (deathmatch), Team Deathmatch and Invader, which is a objective-based mode that pits Americans against the Japanese, with one attacking and one defending. There are four classes available in team-based modes, such as Infantry which offers 25% more health and Engineer which offers the ability to place explosives.
