Unreal 2 XMP (eXpanded MultiPlayer)Multiplayer add-on | Posted by jonchappell on Aug 20th 05 06:57 PM
Unreal 2 did not originally ship with multiplayer so Legend Entertainment created this free add-on in 2003.
The gameplay is similar to Capture the Flag (CTF) and revolves around two competing teams, each of whom have an Artifact Node that functions as the "flag". The difference, however, lies with XMP's use of energy as a currency. Energy is required in order to score, drop turrets, etc. In order to gain energy, teams must capture generators by hacking their control systems.
Deploy points are essentially spawn points. A player can only spawn at a deploy point once every 25 seconds so it is useful to have as many as possible. This can be achieved by hacking them.
There are three character classes available in the game. The Ranger has light armour which gives him low protection but high maneuverability; the Tech is a middleweight class, can hack twice as fast as other classes and can repair other players; and he Gunner which is a heavyweight player who is powerful but slow.
There are three vehicles in the game. The Raptor is a fast single-seater buggy, the Harbinger can seat three people and has a rocket launcher, and the Juggernaut is a slow but powerful tank with a flamethrower.
