Quake 4 Multiplayer Hands-OnFrom QuakeCon 2005 | Posted by jonchappell on Aug 12th 05 04:56 PM
Some lucky guys at Gamespy managed to playtest
Quake 4's multiplayer at QuakeCon.
Apparently it's not a million miles away from Quake 3 in feel, in terms of running speed, jump pads and rocket behaviour. It does however include features from older Quake games such as the Hyperblaster from Quake 2.
id and Raven have hinted that there may be remakes of classic Quake maps. Apparently these could include the final boss map of Quake 3 (Q3tourney6), The Edge from Quake 2 and, of course, The Longest Yard (Q3DM17) from Quake 3. None of this is finalised by the way.
Game modes include vanilla Capture the Flag (CTF) and Arena CTF which includes the runes and powerups of Quake 3: Team Arena which introduced a basic class system into the game. The Tournament mode has changed and instead of two people fighting 1 vs 1 whilst everyone else watches, multiple people 1 vs 1 at the same time. Winners play each other and losers can watch or play other losers. This should make the gamemode more interesting.
The graphical updates are immediately obvious but gamers may feel that there are not enough improvements over Quake 3 to justify purchasing it. It also has to compete with the award-winning Unreal Tournament 2004 and, in the future, UT 2007.
